It's Women's Day!

On March 8, 2020, people all over the world were celebrating International Women’s Day. This is a time for all the women in your life to shine! This day was dedicated to women because of the things they have achieved politically, economically, and socially. Women and men alike usually celebrate and protest on this day because they want equal rights for women. People everywhere in support of International Women’s Day have been putting their arms parallel to each other to create the equal sign, which seems to be a theme this year. People have been creating music and art and painting on walls to signify the achievements of women.

Throughout history, there have been many cool women who have done amazing things for the world. There was Harriet Tubman, who helped many a slave cross over to freedom with the famed Underground Railroad. There was also Marie Curie, who researched radioactivity and was also the first woman to win a Nobel Prize. Susan B. Anthony was a great woman in history who fought for women’s right to vote in elections. She was also an anti-Slavery activist. Going far back into history, Joan of Arc was another woman who believed she could do what was right and led an army during the Hundred Years’ War and make the war go in favor of France. If you’re into the history of medical science and nursing, Florence Nightingale is an awesome woman who helped people realize that when they wash hands, it keeps the hospitals cleaner and increases overall patient survival. More recently, Greta Thunberg has been taking massive steps to help people realize the severity of climate change.

People today have been honoring the women in their life by giving them gifts like flowers and food. Some have even been making kind donations to charities that support women. This world is full of women with potential and bravery. A lot of people support leading activists who really encourage normal citizens everywhere to do great things for their world and generally make the world a better place. Showing women support makes them really happy. Enjoy International Women’s Day!
