In honor of Kobe Bryant, the 41-year-old basketball player who dominated the courts when he played on the Los Angeles Lakers team and brightened the lives of many, the City Hall in Downtown, LA hosted a memorial event, which comprised flooding the outside of the large building with bright purple and gold lights. For those who may not know, this is because gold and purple were of the symbolic colors of the Lakers.
The City Hall light event started in the evening of Wednesday, January 29, so that everyone could see and recognize the colors as a memorial. This is only one of the many things that have been done to commemorate the achievements of the late basketball player, who has tragically died in a helicopter accident in Calabasas, California on Sunday, January 26 with his teenage daughter, Gianna. The two athletes were both very committed to the game they loved so much and their family, as well. Kobe Bryant is survived by his wife, Vanessa, and three children, named Natalia, Bianka, and Capri.
Kobe Bryant was a fascinating man who not only did basketball, but participated in businesses. According to Time and US Magazine, he co-authored a children’s book, but his partner deleted the draft because of Bryant’s death. He made very popular shoes, and his jersey is familiar to all people who know the LA Lakers. His jersey numbers, 8 and 24, were put up at Staples center. People everywhere were sad that Kobe Bryant died. That is why City Hall was covered in purple and gold in memory of him.
