Martin Luther King Jr. Weekend

Three-day weekends are great. Everyone wants one in order to rest for the next week, so why not find ways to make your 3-day weekend worthwhile? With the right activities, you can make your Martin Luther King Jr. weekend feel like another winter break!

First of all, Martin Luther King Jr., known to some as MLK for short, was an activist for the rights of colored people. He is an important part of American history because he vouched for non-segregated restaurants and schools through rallying people for protests. Though people trying to stop his protesting and boycotting treated him harshly, he never felt the need to act unkindly to them in return. Instead, he went on doing his peaceful protests. He is a recipient of the Nobel Peace Prize.

Thanks to Martin Luther King Jr., there is a holiday in memory of him, and that takes place on Monday, January 20. How would you like to spend your holiday?

Studying - Believe it or not, there are some classes that already have tests or quizzes on the first week of school. This calls for a lot of work because some of these tests are really important for people’s grades on the first grading period. However, every single moment of your time on the weekend does not have to be spent studying.

Bonding with your family! Three days is enough time to get somewhere far and get home in time for school on Tuesday. This is why a 3-day weekend is quite unique. You can have a road trip if you plan well enough. If you’re more of a couch potato, then you could still bond with your family by having a snack.

Sleeping in - This is the most popular choice for obvious reasons. No longer do you have to wake up super early in order to get to school, and you can sleep in more during a longer weekend. That way, you turn up at school on Tuesday freshened up and ready to learn.

Doing your favorite activity - Sometimes, activities take a few days, and a 2-day weekend isn’t enough to cover that. If you have a project you’ve been wanting to do for a long time, this weekend is the right time to do it.

Make plans with friends! - Sleepovers are really fun, but if you do it on the Saturday of a regular weekend, then when you wake up on Sunday, you know you have to get ready for school. However, since Monday is off, you can spend your Sunday having carefree thoughts!

Martin Luther King Jr. Day is really something to look forward to. There’s so many fun things you can do! If you work hard, you’ll have the weekend you deserve in no time.
