The week of May 6th is dubbed as Teacher and Nurse Appreciation Week. Morning radio stations all over Los Angeles have participated in this week, and spread the word about the fantastic accomplishments of their teachers. Walter Reed Middle School is full of great teachers who do so many things for the WRMS community, so kudos to them! Without teachers, there wouldn’t be education, and no one would be there to encourage students to learn. Great teachers make learning fun and interesting, and students learn more when they are engaged and passionate about the subject.
This week is also dedicated to nurses, since May 12th, Friday, celebrates Florence Nightingale’s birthday. She was a great nurse who promoted cleanliness while healing soldiers in the Crimean War. Without her, there would have been a lot more casualties than there were, all because the other nurses did not wash their hands! Today, there are many nurses - and teachers, too - who promote the act of washing hands before exiting the bathroom or eating food. Nurses are really important for people’s health. You can thank anyone who you know is a nurse, whether they are in your family or someone who helped you once.
Remember to say thanks to your teachers and community nurses for being such great people! They are really the cornerstone of the world’s society.
