What really IS vaping? Some of you may have read dreadful stories about young teens being hospitalized by it, or other articles simply about it being bad for you. In this article, you will learn about the long term effects, what vaping, a rising new trend, is, and how to prevent yourself from getting addicted or injured.
Chronologically, the first thing that happens is that you get addicted to the nicotine in the vape pen. Your friend may insist you try it, or you may feel an urge to do it instead. Don’t let this happen to you. If you feel like attempting to vape, consult your parents, guardians, or a trusted adviser about vaping. They can tell you all the terrible side effects, but if you keep reading, they are all in here.
In the vape pen, there is a highly addictive drug called nicotine that can stop new brain cells from forming. Many victims of vaping believe that inside the pen is only a mix of water and flavoring, but were unaware that it does in fact contain nicotine. More dangers include:
Ultra-fine particles that can be inhaled deep into lungs.
A flavor such as diacetyl, a chemical that can cause and is linked to lung disease.
Dense metals such as tin, lead, copper, and nickel that can weigh down your lungs.
Even worse, the youngest case of DEATH from vaping is a 17 year old who was hospitalized twice before his death. Please, fellow students of Reed, take this as a warning. So far, there are about 1,300 illnesses caused by vaping in the U.S. and a recent survey has shown that 1 in 10 eighth graders has tried one.
Now, vaping injuries mimic chemical burns and can result in pneumonia- like symptoms (severe coughing), shortness of breath, fevers, and exhaustion. More than 80% of those affected from vaping are under 35 years old and have to live the rest of their life with the said symptoms.
Just imagine living with a permanent illness that can stop you from experiencing the many things life has to offer! Why start something that can bring nothing but illness and sorrow?
With vaping, there are two options. One, avoid it and live healthy for the rest of your life, or two, give into its malicious call and live either in a cough-ridden haze of poisonous smoke or just be remembered as a statistic included in the number of deaths by vaping. Choose wisely whatever path you follow, whether it is to vape or not to vape, it could impact your whole life.
